Inside of RIT's HF Rotor 10 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 2
Hey!

I thought you might enjoy this video as you usually don't get many chances to open up a T2X HF Rotor system! K2GXT has a damaged rotor on our HF beam that has decided not to turn. We have an extra rotor laying in the club room that needs a little work so here it is, all opened up and easy to see. I am not sure if the AC hum is suppose to be there, I'm pretty confident that it is and it's just the sound of the brake's solenoid... I hope

We have about $60 of parts to order such as bearings, grease, and a few others. Considering its a $400 rotor I think getting our hands dirty will not only be fun but financially easier too! Does your club have a rotor?

Thanks,
-Brent

Actually, I am looking forward to dissassembling the HyGain CD-45 on our tribander. Your video may be of more use than you may know!

Our club does have a rotor on our MFJ-1775 Antenna. The antenna itself does an all-right job, and it does take up very little space. The rotor is drastically under worked now as it used to support a 4-element 20M Yagi.

W9NAA has a rotor on our 20m-6m yagi, which is in pretty good shape. We also have an AZ/EL rotor combo currently mounted, but never hooked up, so we don't know their statuses. We are planing to run cable/feedline to them, and if they work, use them for 23cm, 70cm and 2m yagis for satellite ops.

Finally got all the parts to rebuild K2GXT's extra Hy-gain Rotor and install it in replacement of the broken one that is currently on the tower. It took a couple weeks to get them and unfortunately many members of the club are getting hammered down with homework, labs, school... like right now, it is 7PM on a Friday and I am taking a break while working on a lab in the EE building... sounds like engineering school .

I will get pictures up as soon as possible, it will be a good break from school and a nice "get your hands dirty" project replacing the gears and grease. Although this won't be ready for SCR it will get us back on our 2 element beam and free up the Off-Center-Fed Dipole.

Thanks,

-Brent

Ive got a Hy Gain rotor very similar to that one that I am in the process of rebuilding. Picked it up cheap at a swapfest.

I have overhaulded and repaired a few rotors for my school club. Our satellite tower, which i started the project of revamping, but was unable to finish before i graduated had a damaged rotor. It was a Yaesu AzEl contraption, not sure the exact model. The high end one I believe. The steel bracket that held the motor had been bent and twisted. few minutes in the machine shop and I milled a replacement out of aluminum, far stronger than the original sheet steel. Put it back together and greased it up, good as new. No. Better than new.

Sounds like a lot of things when you do it yourself these days

Thanks,
