Call Sign: G6UW
Location: Cambridge, UK
Founded: 1920
Website: www.g6uw.org

The Cambridge University Wireless Society welcomes students, staff, and faculty of Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin Universities.  G6UW is very active offering licence exams to all interested whether or not they attend either university.  The club is very active with the Radio Society of Great Britain Islands On The Air programme.  While the Cambridge University Wireless Society was founded in 1920, it was assigned G6UW in 1932.  G6UW celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2007 with a special event station that made over 1,700 contacts.

The club boasts notable alumni such as Sir Ernest Rutherford, Edward Victor Appleton who discovered an ionospheric layer, JB Gunn who made the gunn diode, Sir Martin Ryle, and others who are listed on the club's website.

The club is active in most major contests, especially CQ WW SSB, under the callsign M4A. We undertake DXpeditions most years, including recently as ZD8UW, GH6UW and G6UW/TF. There are also a number of more small-scale operations, such as 'Summits on the Air' operations from mountains throughout the UK. Many students also enjoy DXing from the well-equipped shack.

G6UW encourages active learning by giving talks most terms on topics such as vertical antennas, satellite operations, and more.
